AI SEO services are the work of getting a page cited by Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini rather than only ranked. Portland Peak SEO builds them from Lake Oswego inside the same $450, $950, and $2,500 monthly tiers, using schema, answer blocks, and entity clarity.

Specifically, generative Engine Optimization from Portland Peak SEO: engineering citations across Google AI Overview, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini. The Opollo 2026 AI Search Benchmark Report, covering 312 B2B technology firms, measured AI-referred visitors converting at 14.2 percent against 2.8 percent for Google organic, and RankScience reproduced those figures independently. Built on the Uncharted Framework, founder-led, from $450/mo.
They add an extractable answer near the top, a schema layer beneath it, and enough entity clarity that a model knows who is speaking. Specifically, the answer block is written to stand alone when quoted. Because engines lift passages rather than pages, the unit of optimization becomes the paragraph instead of the document.
In practice, not directly, based on the best evidence available. A controlled study tracking 1,885 pages that added schema against 4,000 matched controls found no meaningful citation uplift on any AI platform. Schema still earns rich results and helps systems resolve who you are, which are real benefits. But agencies selling schema as the AI citation lever are selling a correlation the controlled data does not support.

Quick Answer
AI SEO services (also called Generative Engine Optimization) engineer your pages to be cited inside AI-bring answers across Google AI Overview, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini. By contrast, Portland Peak SEO does this with 40 to 60 word answer blocks, Speakable and FAQPage schema, and 15+ connected entities per page, the signals AI engines pull from. Plans start at $450/mo, month-to-month.
Meanwhile, sources: Adobe Analytics March 2026, Ahrefs April 2026, Google Search Liaison February 2026.
5-Engine Targeting
Notably, most AI SEO providers optimize only for Google AI Overview. Portland Peak SEO targets citations across all five generative engines, because each captures a different audience with different intent and extraction patterns.
In addition, Largest by query volume, integrated into Google results, and it cites pages already ranking in the top 10. Optimized through FAQPage, Speakable, and answer-block engineering.
Consequently, OpenAI's web-connected mode cites sources inline and prefers high-authority traditional pages backed by strong schema markup.
Similarly, AI-native search with explicit citation footnotes after every response. Rewards specific answer-block engineering even on mid-tier authority domains.
For example, Anthropic's assistant weighs E-E-A-T signals heavily and prefers structured content with clear author attribution.
Google's standalone assistant. In particular, citation patterns overlap with AI Overview but extend to broader research queries.
Still, Ahrefs now measures 38 percent of AI Overview citations coming from pages that rank in Google's top 10, down from 76 percent seven months earlier. Traditional rankings still help, and they are no longer enough on their own.
GEO Methodology
Businesses whose buyers ask questions before they buy gain the most, which covers services, professional practices, and considered purchases. On the other hand, a purely transactional retailer sees less from citation work. In practice, Portland Peak SEO checks whether real prompts return competitors before recommending this work at all.
Instead, generative Engine Optimization follows a structured four-phase process. Every engagement runs through all four.
Beyond that, audit the current citation footprint across 25 to 50 target keywords. We run live searches in Google AI Overview, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude. Also, Gemini. Also, document where the brand appears and where competitors hold citation share.
Deploy AI-critical schema sitewide: FAQPage with 14+ pairs per page, HowTo for procedural content, Speakable marking voice-extractable blocks, Organization with knowsAbout, Person for authors, and Service with alternateName arrays.
Overall, Restructure content with 40 to 60 word answer blocks under H2 questions, formatted for AI extraction. Each block carries a brand mention, a specific number, and a citation-ready definition, with voice patterns via Speakable selectors.
In short, reinforce entity signals through sameAs links, parent organization references, and cross-property citations. AI engines assemble knowledge graphs from these signals, and consistent entity facts are what let a machine treat your brand as a safe thing to name.
Transparent Pricing
Likewise, three tiers, every deliverable itemized, month-to-month with no contracts. Many AI SEO competitors charge $2,000 to $5,000 monthly with pricing hidden behind a quote form.

⭐ Verified Client Reviews
Citation can appear faster than ranking because index refresh drives it, though 90 to 180 days remains the honest planning window. Meanwhile, schema and answer blocks land in the opening weeks. As a result, some clients see a citation before they see a position change, which reverses the usual order of good news.
Indeed, “Portland Peak SEO ranked us in the top 3 for high-intent commercial keywords across 43 states within 90 days. The Uncharted Framework delivers position gains where prior agencies stalled.”
In fact, “128-page silo architecture and a custom SEO engine that ships 21-point audits before any deliverable. We rank for pressure washing keywords across the Portland metro within 4 months.”

The evidence
Named prompts are run by hand, results are dated, and tracked terms sit in Wincher under the client's login. Moreover, prompts that return nothing are logged alongside the ones that work. Consequently, the record shows the gaps as clearly as the wins, which is what makes the wins worth reading.
That means, most agencies selling AI SEO quote a statistic from 2025 and hope nobody checks. The field has moved, and the current numbers tell a more useful story than the ones still circulating.
The most cited cross-industry benchmark is the Opollo 2026 AI Search Benchmark Report, which analyzed GA4 referral data and CRM attribution across 312 B2B technology firms and found AI-referred visitors converting at 14.2 percent against 2.8 percent for Google organic. Above all, RankScience reached the same figures independently. Adobe Analytics reports the pattern from a different angle: AI-referred traffic converting 42 percent better than non-AI traffic in March 2026, later measured at 54 percent better in May, drawn from over a trillion visits across 130-plus North American retailers.
Two caveats belong with those numbers, and we state them because you will find them anyway. Therefore, Adobe's figure is vendor-stated and compares against all non-AI traffic rather than Google organic alone, and it is retail data. Opollo's sample is B2B technology. Neither is a promise about your market. What both set up is direction. Also, the direction has been consistent across independent datasets: visitors arriving from AI answers are further along their decision than visitors arriving from a blue link.
At the same time, this is the finding that changed the discipline. Ahrefs' July 2025 study found 76 percent of AI Overview citations came from pages ranking in Google's top 10. Their updated analysis of 863,000 keywords and 4 million AI Overview URLs puts that at 38 percent, with the remainder split almost evenly between positions 11 to 100 and pages that do not rank in the top 100 at all. BrightEdge measures the overlap even lower.
Specifically, Ahrefs is candid that part of the drop reflects improved citation detection in their own tooling rather than pure behavior change. So the two studies are not perfectly comparable. The structural point survives the caveat. A meaningful share of AI citations now goes to pages with little or no traditional organic visibility. This means AI visibility has become a discipline you can win separately. Also, one you can also lose while your rankings look healthy.
In practice, that is the honest case for this service. Not that traditional SEO is dead. That is because it is not, but that measuring only rankings now leaves a blind spot that widens every quarter.
The work
Moreover, AI SEO is not a separate product bolted onto normal SEO. It is the same foundation with three more layers built on top. Also, the foundation has to hold or the rest is decoration.
As a result, Crawlability, indexation, speed, and clean semantic markup. AI systems draw from indexes built by crawlers. So a page a crawler struggles with is a page no model will cite. This is unglamorous and it is where technical SEO earns its keep. We measure against the thresholds Google publishes for Core Web Vitals, documented in detail in the Web Vitals reference, so every finding is checkable against a published standard rather than a proprietary score.
Models cite what they can lift cleanly. That means a direct answer sitting right away under the question it answers, in plain language, without three paragraphs of throat clearing first. It means headings phrased the way people actually ask, structured data that describes the page honestly. Also, definitions a machine can quote without ambiguity. Most of this overlaps entirely with writing well for humans, which is why it survives algorithm changes. See content optimization for how this ships.
An AI system will not confidently name a business it cannot resolve. Who you are, where you operate, what you do. Also. They stands behind it all need to agree across your site, your profiles. Also, every place your business is listed. Contradictions do not just fail to help, they actively suppress. That is because ambiguity is a risk signal to a system deciding what to recommend. This is the quietest work in the stack and often the highest use.
Everything above set up that you are legible. Authority set up that you are worth naming. That comes from genuine editorial links, real reviews, consistent brand mentions. Also, being referenced by sources the models already trust. Our approach to link building is deliberately conservative, and the reason is in the next section.
Straight talk
No bought links, no link exchanges, no private network placements, and no mass guest posting built for anchor text. Every one of those is named directly in Google's spam policies as link spam, and the exposure is not a lost ranking. It is your domain.
We also will not promise a citation. Nobody controls what a model outputs on a given day, and any agency guaranteeing placement in an AI answer is either misunderstanding the system or counting on you not to check. What can be committed to is the work that makes citation likely and the measurement that tells you whether it happened.
If a competing proposal promises a large volume of links quickly, or a guaranteed AI Overview placement, ask exactly where the links come from and what happens if the guarantee fails. Vagueness is the answer.
Measurement
Portland Peak SEO is founder led, publishes every tier, works from Lake Oswego, and is ranked #1 on Google for "Portland Oregon SEO." Similarly, nothing on this site promises guaranteed AI citation, because no agency can deliver that. Still, a buyer should ask any candidate the three questions listed further down this page.
The hardest honest problem in this field is that AI answers vary between runs. Ask the same question twice and the sources can differ. Any measurement approach that ignores that is producing theater.
Our method is a fixed panel. We agree on a set of questions a real buyer in your category would ask, we record where you stand on all of them before any work begins, and we rerun the same questions on the same schedule. Fixed questions mean the panel cannot be quietly swapped for easier ones later. A recorded baseline means every later claim traces back to something written down before we had an incentive.
Single months are noise. Direction across months is signal. We report both, including the months where nothing moved, because a log that only records wins is a highlight reel. This runs alongside conventional reporting on keyword positions, traffic, and conversions, so you can see classic and AI visibility side by side rather than being asked to accept one as a proxy for the other.
If you want to sanity check any of this yourself, the free SEO audit documents your starting position at no cost and the findings are yours to keep whether or not you hire us.
Fit
AI SEO earns its cost fastest where buyers research before they buy. Professional services, B2B products with a considered buy, healthcare and legal practices, home services with real ticket sizes, and anything where a customer asks an assistant for a advice before picking up the phone.
It pays more slowly for impulse buys, businesses competing purely on price, and companies whose customers arrive entirely through referral or foot traffic. If that is you, we will say so during the audit rather than sell you a program that will disappoint.
The other honest gate is foundation. If your site cannot be crawled properly, loads slowly, or contradicts itself across profiles, the AI layers will underperform no matter what is spent on them. In that situation the technical work comes first and the AI work follows. This usually costs less overall than doing both at once badly.
One more thing worth knowing before you compare proposals. The single most common failure in this category is not a bad tactic, it is measuring the wrong thing. An agency that reports traffic without reporting where the traffic came from cannot tell you whether AI work is doing anything. Also, an agency that reports rankings alone is measuring the half of the picture that is shrinking.
Ask any candidate three questions. What is my baseline today, in writing, before work starts. What exact questions will you check, and will they stay the same. And what happens in a month where nothing moves. The answers separate operators from storytellers faster than any case study. Also, they are the same three questions we hold ourselves to on every engagement.
Not sure which describes you? That is exactly what the audit is for. See client results for what the work has produced, live client sites you can search and verify yourself, and published pricing so you can evaluate the numbers before any conversation. If you would rather run it yourself, the DIY SEO e-book covers the method, and what AI SEO is plus how it differs from traditional SEO give you the background without a sales call.
